Progression Pathways gear up for Open Day
Strong number of Further Education students expected at ATU Sligo event
Over the past week, the ‘Progression Pathways: From Further Education to Higher Education’ team continued their visits to schools ahead of their Open Day at ATU Sligo campus tomorrow (Thursday).
The team, which consists of four ATU lecturers – Gillian O’Donovan (Marketing and Languages), Clodagh Caslin (Economics and Risk Management), Lorraine Murphy (Law) and Ruth Walsh (Law) – were warmly welcomed at both Cavan Institute and Monaghan Institute, where they met with 1,000 and 500 Further Education students respectively.
A number of students from these institutes, along with those visited in Mayo Sligo Leitrim ETB schools earlier in the month, hope to attend the Open Day tomorrow.
The Progression Pathways programme, which is funded by Higher Education 4.0 under the Human Capital Initiative (HCI) Pillar 3, seeks to identify the barriers that prevent students moving from a Further Education (FE) course, such as those offered by Educational Training Boards (ETBs), to a Higher Education (HE) or third-level college.
By identifying and addressing these barriers the aim is to create more opportunities for those wishing to pursue Higher Education and, thereby, drive equality of access to education for all.
